Rating: C "All in all, The Rental is a clear attempt at creating a new horror franchise, and honestly, it partially works. If "success" means getting the viewers interested in a sequel, then mission accomplished. However, sacrificing the first movie of a possible saga to just introduce its main horror element doesn't quite work as Dave Franco might have thought. In his directorial debut, Franco focuses on the characters and their relationships, which are undoubtedly the most captivating aspects of the film, also thanks to a fantastic cast. Despite some neat technical attributes, the formulaic screenplay and its predictable developments are far from being entertaining enough to hold my attention. The dozens of unanswered questions definitely leave an open door to produce a genuinely compelling sequel, but this first installment will always feel more like a prologue than an actual movie. If you're just looking for a simple horror flick to spend your extra time, this one won't surprise you, but it might be a good, inoffensive Saturday night pick."

Started off really strong, Dave Franco did well. Unfortunately, the film could have avoided the unwanted cliche ending by taking a turn into what the audience wanted to see.

So who's the masked murderer reminiscent of Halloween's Michael Myers at the end? What's his motive? If he's the owner of the house then why suffocate his own brother? Will there be a sequel? Plot line predictable, characters unlikeable, nothing out of the ordinary in Dave Franco's directorial debut, just another slasher flick but happens right at the end.

( Spoiler Alert) I really liked this movie because it made me hate the characters . Thats really confusing but hear me out. When I say I hated the characters I mean that the movie makes you dislike two characters because they make bad decisions as people and act really darn stupid. I don't mean that they were written badly but this is how you write believable annoying and stupid people. I especially hated the main female character because she was such a @#$% and it was satisfying to see her dead. That being said there are 2 other characters that I really wanted to escape but they didn't.

Very slow start, predictable and un-original. Plus the ending was non-existent.

First, way to go for being the first to build anxiety with regards to an animal without doing what every director needlessly does. I hated all the characters. I've had ex-friends like all four of them. They got no sympathy. The actual concept was original. My first and last time at a rental was a nightmare. AirBnB isn't regulated, so a nasty host can say mildewed showers and hair on the bathroom floor is clean and fine and you deal with it. I checked for cameras in the obvious places, but this movie showed me places I might have missed. It was educational if anything. A lot of reviewers say the ending sucked. It was realistic. Not overdone in my opinion. That kind of stuff creeps me out more than anticipating what you know is going to happen.

Hands down one of the worst movies I've ever seen. How did this get made? The most boring and pointless plot. Avoid at all costs!!!
