The movie is enjoyable. I simply liked it.

Nothing exceptional - which the X-Men franchise was once known for - but still fun!
  • Rating: 1.5 out of 5 stars
Bland stereotypes, plodding plot line, and no post-credits scene. Boring, corny, and tries so hard to be relatable it's out of touch.

Really beautiful and personal story; but be aware, this is not an action super-hero film, nor is it a thriller or horror movie.

I absolutely could name more boring & contrived films. I could. It would just take me a while is all.

One of the most enjoyable aspects of New Mutants was the way that it held the personalities and backgrounds of the characters relatively close to the comic book. Having read much of the original New Mutants series, starting from issue 1, and X-Men, starting from issue 160 or so, I thoroughly enjoyed the fresh take on the characters and the movie as a whole. The New Mutants movie was never meant to be a retelling of the comic, nor was it meant to have a direct connection to the X-Men movies. As such, the horror style twist to the plot was both fresh and well done. Suspend your disbelief and watch it as a standalone story and you're going to have fun.
