audience Reviews

- Rating: 1.5 out of 5 starsLoved the series, but the movie was disappointing. Spoiler alert. The person who was murdered supposedly measured his bungee cord incorrectly. The bridge that he jumped off of was supposedly 300 feet high. The bungee cord that he carried on the bridge and what was shown in the clips of him jumping off the bridge was only about 20 feet long. When Monk is explaining what happened at the end of the show, he says Griffin thought he was measuring his bungee cord at 304 feet! There’s no way the cord was anywhere near 304 feet, Again, it was only about 20 feet. And if you’re jumping off a bridge that’s 300 feet high, your actual jump will be closer to 250 feet, so your bungee cord would probably be closer to 75-100 feet, because it’s gonna stretch at least double in the length of what you cut! Anyone who was a fan of the series could’ve come up with a better storyline. It’s like they didn’t care that the storyline didn’t make sense. What a shame.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsThe show and the movie. The acting and the direction. The story and the humor. This is superlative. It’s a jungle out there and Monk is the respite. I have watched the series at least 10 times and the movie a few times as well. I think that the only crime is that this series did not continue for 10 more seasons. Well, at least we have the movie now. Must watch!!
- Rating: 1 out of 5 starsThis movie was truly awful. As someone who thoroughly enjoyed the Monk television series, I found this film to be slow, depressing, and ill-conceived on multiple levels. Instead of continuing Monk's story in a meaningful way, the script inexplicably portrays him as a potential suicide case. Why would anyone think this was a good idea? It's a deeply disheartening way to revisit such a beloved series. From start to finish, the movie drags the viewer into a sense of darkness and dread, entirely at odds with the spirit of the original show. The plot is not only weak but also implausible. While I still have great affection for the characters, it was uncomfortable watching much older actors attempt to embody their younger selves. This was especially true for Tony Shalhoub, who lacked the vibrant spark that made Monk so endearing. Instead, his performance felt shriveled and morose throughout most of the production. As for the ending, it felt completely uninspired. If you’re curious where the idea came from, you need only watch the Twilight Zone episode “The Changing of the Guard.” It’s a shame that such a terrific series had to be capped off with this disappointing and poorly executed movie.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsIf you were a fan of the series then this is a must see! It is a fun mystery, filled with emotions, nostalgia and our favorite characters! I hope this series will continue to draw interest, great job ! ☺️
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsIf you loved monk then this movie is a must see, the early 2000s nostalgia hits heavy and sweet and it was fantastic to see every one back.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 starsQuite shocking that this movie got 96% on RT - it's possible that critics are being much kinder to this as a Monk reunion special, rather than a movie. As for all the people giving the 5 stars and calling this witty... The original show was witty, the movie is disappointingly simple and linear. Without giving away plot points, the main crime itself is predictable, you will see it coming. Once you accept the simplicity of the crime that needs solved (it's really shockingly simple ..) the actually mystery and killer can be guessed by most audience members within 5 minutes. Worse, in very un-Monk-life form, there are no Zig-zags, twists or surprises that change the direction of the narrative; Mr Monk seemingly takes twice as long as most audience members to solve the murder, and the story grinds itself to a conclusion. The real tragedy here is that all the elements that brought the characters back together work - it's believable and fun to find the characters back together again, and the Pandemic spin and additional story about Monks life is timely and funny. If they had only taken the time to make an interesting and unusual mystery, then this would have been a great film.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsOnce again the cast is super! I thought that the storyline was well-written but a little sad in the way Monk felt.. awesome ending. WANT MORE MONK!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsMy only critique is that it ended! Want more monk!
- Rating: 0.5 out of 5 starsVery unbelievable, monk is all around a bad person who gets personified as a hero. Cast does a great job but some of the worst writing I've ever seen
