Endless

In trying to explain the unexplainable, "Endless" hits a dead end.

As "Endless" limps toward a tidy ending, never willing to wrestle with anything as big as love and life and what happens after, those possibilities are snuffed out in favor of cheap epherma.

Ultimately what this film proves is making a good romantic melodrama, however young-skewing, is no child's play.

For only the most undiscriminating YA romantics.

Amiable leads Alexandra Shipp and Nicholas Hamilton - along with a thoughtfully in-sync supporting cast - keep things unfolding in a kind-hearted place when the screenplay could have easily marooned the audience in a copycat purgatory.

The film isn’t a new classic by any means, but thanks to the commitment to its central premise and the moving performance by Alexandra Shipp, it’s one that won’t be an embarrassing guilty pleasure in another decade or so.

Another teen romance that unhealthily fetishizes death as the catalyst for deeper romance. Golly, it's insufferable.

This film just plods along like a Hallmark type film but takes itself far too seriously and neither the script nor the acting can meet a reasonable standard.

Endless is far from a masterpiece, but it largely works for what it is and is elevated as a whole by a wonderful central performance by Alexandra Shipp.

Granted, the story isn't the most original, most of it playing as a young adult version of Ghost, but it's in its familiarities that it finds its strengths.
