Can You Keep a Secret?

Elise Duran's adaptation of a Sophie Kinsella chick- lit novel gives us a kind of unromantic noncom, a movie with no believable characters and worrying few laughs.

I'm kind of amazed that this movie still gets made today -- it feels like a throwback to really vapid, perky late-90s romantic comedies, like something you'd watch while laying back on the couch with a cold or the flu.

Overall, Can You Keep A Secret forges its identity as a serviceable romp for those who enjoy films based on postfeminist fiction.

Daddario doesn't nearly get the material that can match her abundant energy.

Characters behave nonsensically in Peter Hutchings' script, and each laugh they get feels like they stumbled into it.

This is 100 percent Hoechlin’s movie. He’s charming from the get-go, you know without question that he’s going to come through in the end, and… Well, let’s just say there’s a reason he’s Superman.

Can You Keep a Secret? is far from the worst of the romantic comedies but its dull premise will fail to spark any real excitement from the genre's fans.
