Benny Loves You

Benny Loves You is not good. It's simple, stupid, full of grisly gore, and ludicrous gags. Which is to say, it's a pretty good Midnight Movie watch, the kind of thing best appreciated when you're burned out, buzzed, or flat-out high.

Whether it be actual toys or movies about them coming to life and killing people, they don't make 'em like they used to.

In this comic killer-doll film, our hero struggles to put away childish things, even as we are left wondering whether it might be Jack's own arrested psyche, rather than a stuffed animal, that is the real deadly danger.

Successfully walks the tightrope of comedy and horror whilst also providing an emotional core at its heart... outrageously funny and gory horror you wish you could watch with an eager and receptive cinema audience like FrightFest.

Benny Loves You is a blast; it's funny and it's disgustingly gory. A horror-comedy treasure with just enough heart, that doesn't take itself too seriously.

The story is one-note and gets old fast, but the film leans more on the comedy side than the horror, which should be popular during the midnight movie circuit at art house theaters.

Imagining for a second that Benny Loves You had been the first of its kind, it would still be a humorless slog.

The third act loses its dark whimsy, but this no-budget romp can't be contained.

A stuffed toy killing people is pretty funny initially, and Holt's screenplay is generally content to coast on that surface idea. There are only so many times the sight of Benny wielding a weapon is entertaining.
